DESCRIPTION

Our team was contracted to perform earthwork, site improvements, utility installation, and wetland mitigation for a new 27-acre Costco Site located in the ever-growing City of Lake Stevens, Washington. The new Costco Warehouse will provide a more diverse retail selection and approximately 275 jobs for the community. This development triggered the need for nearby roadway projects, including a new roundabout at the Route 9 and South Lake Stevens Road intersection.

SCOPE OF WORK

This project site was a heavily forested area with wetlands which required a large scale clear and grub operation, wetland mitigation, and construction of a detention pond. Our team was responsible for mass earthwork, footing excavations, site improvements, roadway improvements, wetland construction, a permanent detention pond with a dispersion trench, and the installation of underground utilities, block walls, and modular wetlands. Due to a late start work authorization, major earthwork activities were interrupted with an above average rainy season midway through moving the 300,000 cubic yards required to balance the site. We coordinated with other teams to winterize the site/protect slopes and grade by creating drainage for on-site runoff to a large pond where the water was treated with a chitosan water filtration system.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Successfully managed stormwater from 27 acres of soil throughout the winter with zero violations
  • Utilized a well vac system to dewater a sewer trench while avoiding any conflicts with the WSDOT roundabout project
  • Mitigated pipe material shortages by requesting and gaining acceptance of material substitution
